World’s Darkest Skies

The Island of Sark has the population of about 600 and is considered to be the best place to experience the true majesty of the Universe. The island comes under the British Crown dependency. The island has no cars or streetlights that provide an undisturbed view of the beauty of the stars spread across the black canvas.

The International Dark Sky Association declared the location as having the darkest sky on Planet Earth in 2011. While most of the places declared by Dark Sky Association are located in very remote places and cannot be reached by the usual means of transport, The Island of Sark lies merely 25 miles west of France and provides the basic necessities for its visitors.

The community on the Island is also committed towards keeping their Island free of light pollution that has deprived the large portion of the world from experiencing the true majesty of the universe. The island now has its very own observatory designed to provide the visitors a closer look of heavens. The Observatory is not a smooth domed shape concrete structure with high-tech machinery but is rather a wooden shed with minimal equipment to provide the visitors with a chance to explore something amazing.
